Translation for businesses
We translate high-impact copy for an exciting clientele of global brands.
Make a lasting impression in any language
Our team of expert translators goes well beyond the word for word. They’re passionate about cultural context, nuance, style and tone of voice, and they have the expertise to ensure that your message has the same impact whatever language it’s written in.
Need to transcreate an amusing strapline for a major international campaign? In our transcreation work, we’ll think about what will make your global audiences chuckle in the same way as the ones at home. Producing a contract for an overseas partner? We’ll work with a legal translator to ensure that key concepts and clauses don’t slip through the cracks. Translating your website for a new market? We’ll begin by learning to speak just like you do, so your new readers don’t miss out on the subtleties of your message or the impact of your brand.
At Tate & Clayburn, we’re a creative and adaptable bunch – as responsive as an in-house translation department, but with the capacity to expand and contract in step with your workload. We’ll work with you as seamlessly and thoughtfully as we can, and if you’re looking for a one-stop shop, we can design your text too. Whatever your language needs, we’d love to have a chat about how we can help.

‘Peter and his team at Tate & Clayburn were easy to work with and so accommodating in the multiple short-lead requests that I sent to them for a client of Hemsley Fraser’s. They delivered all of the documents back to me on time or early with clear and concise feedback on what their proofreaders had changed or had suggested to change to ensure all documents were accurate and cohesive across the project. I would not hesitate to use Tate & Clayburn again, nor would I hesitate to recommend them to any of my colleagues or outside organisations. I look forward to our next project together!’

Frequently asked questions
What is your quality assurance process?
We place quality at the heart of everything we do, and we’re proud to be certified for compliance with ISO 9001:2015, the globally recognised quality standard. We only work with experienced and fully vetted linguists and our strict in-house quality-checking processes make sure nothing slips through the cracks. Read more about our approach to quality.
Will my work be kept confidential?
How quickly will I get my document back?
We can translate shorter documents in less than a working week. Let us know your deadline and we’ll do our absolute best to meet it.
What file types can you work with?
We’re happy to translate in any of the MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) as well as in Google Docs, Google Sheets and the like. If you send us a designed document for translation (such as a PDF), we’ll usually prepare a matrix (with the original on one side and the translation on the other) so that your designer can easily see which part of the translated text corresponds to which part of the original. We also offer design and proofreading services if you need us to take care of this part of the job.
What will I receive exactly?
Once we’ve finished translating your document, we’ll send it back in the format of your choice. Of course, if you have any follow-up questions after we’ve sent you the final document, we’re more than happy to answer them.
How much do you charge?
We calculate the cost of translation based on the number of words in your document and the languages involved. Send us your document and deadline and we’ll get back to you with a free, speedy and precise quote.
How and when should I pay?
We accept payment via bank transfer and PayPal, which includes card payments via the PayPal interface.
For individual clients, we ask that you pay up front the first time we work together; after that, we’ll switch to 30-day invoicing. For businesses, universities and other organisations, we understand that you would most likely prefer an invoice on completion. We’ll ask for your business address, and our payment terms are 30 days from the date of invoicing.
I need my university/research budget to pay. How will this work?
Don’t worry in the least! For most of our academic clients, we liaise directly with the finance department to sort out the admin, so you can focus on the research side of things. If you put us in touch with the relevant team, we’ll work through the supplier registration, quoting and invoicing process with them. Just let us know how you prefer to work and we’ll fit in with you.
We have 30-day payment terms for language services suppliers. Can we work with you?
Yes, as long as you can provide us with a full business address. For individual clients, we ask that you pay up front the first time we work together; after that, we’ll switch to 30-day invoicing.
